KH Smilers was originally a Young Enterprise team in Year 10 at Kelvin Hall School. The team excelled in the competition representing Hull and Humber in the Yorkshire finals and then Yorkshire and Humber in the national finals in 2004.

Along the way we collected 16 awards, which included Best Company, Customer Service and Information Technology.

The company was liquidated in July in accordance with competition rules and the profit raised was donated to the Candlelighters charity.

We decided that as the business was so well known and viable, it had a future and should be developed. A decision was made that three of us would continue the business as a limited company, which was incorporated in October 2004.

Last year we produced fifty thousand plants and 120 hanging baskets. The plants are grown locally in greenhouses and a polytunnel.

We have many new ideas and are very enthusiastic about the future for the company.
